QEPAS sensor using a radial resonator

We report on the use of a radial acoustic resonator to increase signal quartz enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) sensor. This approach is an attractive alternative usual configurations based microtube longitudinal resonators since it enables substantially relax laser beam alignment and positioning thus paves way towards more cost-effective industrial production. new QEPAS configuration first investigated designed by finite element simulation. It then experimentally implemented characterised detecting acetylene around 1.5 µm. The combination with custom tuning fork (QTF) leads sensor normalised noise equivalent absorption (NNEA) $$3.9 \times 10^{-9}$$ W cm $$^{-1}$$ Hz $$^{-1/2}$$ which close performance state-of-the-art sensors resonators.
